Auction wrap-up and payments due
Dear Mendoza Owners:The auctions are complete and the 2010 season seems to be getting off to a smooth start. Seems like there are always a few bumps, but each year it gets a little easier. Payments are due a little earlier this year, on May 1. If you do not pay your balance due by that time, you may have difficulties making a roster move, so please check your account balances and pay any balance owed. The reason to have a payment due at this time of year is to identify any dead teams as early as possible so that a new owner can be found. Thanks in advance for your consideration of your fellow owners. I think all leagues except Morgan are holding minor league drafts this year. I would like to get all of the drafts wrapped up by June 1 this year, before the MLB draft. Eligible players include all players with MLB ID#s. Players without an MLB ID# as of now, including those listed on the Baseball America Top 100 list, are not eligible for the draft. Sometimes it's fun to look back at the data from the auctions, so here are some quick facts:- There were 16,359 bids placed this year by 125 owners
- There were 26 owners whose highest bid exceeded $30/year, 46 whose highest bid was at least $25, 78 at $20, 100 at $15, and 112 at $10.
- There were two owners whose highest bids were $0.75, and five owners whose highest bids were $5 or less.
- There appeared to be some inflation in the contract prices this year. The average bid was about 10% higher than in past years, and 14 of the 25 top contracts were signed in 2010. This is not unexpected, given that rookies are now coming into the league at $0.25 rather than at a market price.
I'll try to post some stats from the arbitration season as well. As always, please feel free to email me if you have any questions.Arne
